Vikra opened the year with a performance at the Teatro Comunale Pavarotti-Freni in Modena, dedicated to the Slovenian writer Boris Pahor. As a towering figure of 20th-century literature and a witness to the tragedies of the World Wars and the Holocaust, Pahor’s life and legacy served as the heart of this musical journey. The program was carefully curated to trace the most significant stages of his literary path, offering the audience a profound reflection on history and identity. Under the direction of Petra Grassi, the ensemble performed a selection of choral works by celebrated composers such as Pavle Merkù, Marij Kogoj, and Jacobus Gallus, as well as contemporary authors including Corrado Margutti, Nana Forte, and Andrej Makor. This repertoire, which included pieces set to lyrics by Pahor himself, was chosen to reflect both the writer’s personal journey and the cultural identity of the Slovenian minority.
The event was organized in collaboration with Amici della Musica di Modena and cultural and academic partners as part of the project “Concerto della Memoria e del Dialogo“. Now in its 15th edition, this initiative coincided with the Day of Remembrance, showcasing Vikra’s ability to blend historical narrative with modern choral textures. This performance served as a meaningful cultural exchange, honoring a great witness of our time through the universal language of music.
