Vikra performed “Star(e)s – Sguardi di luce e ombra (Glimpses of Light and Shadow)” at St. Joseph’s Church in Sarajevo, with an additional presentation during Holy Mass on Sunday, June 16. The program spanned Renaissance to contemporary works, performed in Italian, Slovenian, English, Latin, and Old Church Slavonic, exploring themes of inter-ethnic reconciliation and shared human experience.
The concert was presented in collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Embassy of Slovenia, and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), within initiatives promoting inter-ethnic cohesion. The audience included local residents and high-ranking international representatives—including High Representative Christian Schmidt—along with members of the Slovenian and Italian communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In opening remarks, Ambassador Marco Di Ruzza emphasized the symbolic importance of fostering shared memory and reconciliation, while Director Petra Grassi highlighted the music’s ability to transcend national or religious divisions as a form of secular spirituality. This performance in the heart of Sarajevo showcased Vikra’s excellence as a cultural ambassador, using the universal language of choral music to promote dialogue in a territory marked by complex historical narratives.
